You Know His Name..

Im going completley left field from hip-hop, but i dont limit myself to one genre..

Chris Cornell, of Soundgarden, Audioslave, and James Bond fame, has a new album coming out in which he shows off even more range. It's called Scream and was produced by big nig Timbaland. Cornell is one of the few guys who, I think, has a voice that can pretty much sing anything (Freddy Mercury, Bert McCrackin, and the guy from Linkin Park are his peers on that front). In this album it sounds like he's trying to go for more of a rock/pop sound.

Click after the break to see the video for his single, Scream. The entire album is supposed to drop sometime in early March, but as this is the internet, it's already been leaked in full quality. Overall I think it's a pretty good album, definitely an interesting style for him.

VANSxAIR JORDAN HI

Vans just dropped these for Spring 09 a.k.a. Now. These are available at Grip for a buck eighty. These are a little on the expensive side but these shoes are dope. I'm just glad one of these Jordan collab shoes (this is not technically a collab. Vans just racked that Jordan midsole right off the wall...cough cough) doesn't involve those ugly ass Nike Air Force Ones. This shoe has lifted a weight off of my sole....cuz the forces are bulky. haha. I will regrettably post the black colorway as well. That sole is one of the major drawing points of the shoe and the black colorway, specifically the Vans Owen Hi Vulc ($140), has that SAME OLD Vans sole. I am not hating on that sole however. I love that basic white sole with the waffle grip on much of the Vans line, but on this shoe, that Jordan sole is too legit. If you are trying to save a little money and don't mind missing out on the Jordan sole then be my guest. I just can't deny that quilted white upper with the red accents. Ups to Vans for sure. I hope they continue on this path

Jay-Z to Chris Brown: You're A Walking Deadman

So, I know this incident with Rhianna and Chris Brown is unfortunate and a very serious issue. I honestly never thought it could get to this point, and honestly wish it didnt. Im pretty sure everyone knows the story, so im not going to get into it, but appearently Jay-Z, whos really close with Rihanna as well as Chris, has some words for Chris Brown himself. According to the New York Post, Jay-Z, who mentored Rhianna was upset with CB and said “Chris is a walking dead man. He messed with the wrong crew”..ohh boy.

Rapper Big Pooh Presents: "THE COMEBACK" Trailor

Where's The Music?

More and more nowadays, ive grown to be disapointed with my generations perception of whats music and whats bullshit. Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, all of these artists are killing what i've grown to love, hip-hop. Rakim, Oukast, Common, etc.. that is hip hop. Except my few friends that actually agree with me, everyone is pretty much on the bandwagon of mainstream (C)Rap music, that the cooporate world plays in order to make their own money. Once you leave the underground, all your orignality and creativity seems to be taken away to an extent. Take Common and Murs' new albums, neither of them sound like something they would've done in the past. Murs left Def Jux for Warner Brothers and POOF! There goes classic Murs material! But dont get me wrong his shit is still ill as fuck. And this new generation of mixtape rap is kinda bringing back the roots and making a feel good type hype for heads like me. I honestly think that their will be mixtapes released this year that rival the actual albums. Drake's So Far Gone? Im already gonna call this the "tape of the year". Never again will hip hop be the same back when Kool Herc, The Tribe, and others ruled the radio.. we can only make due with what we have now, and hope it improves in the future. That was my two cents, feel free to argue with me..

SPOTLIGHT: Seven

Checkin my myspace, i got a request from a west coast indie rapper by the name of Seven. I was diggin the beats like crazy, straight breakbeats.. but listening even more, this dudes flow and delivery is incredible. So i decided to get to know the dude, heres his take on musical influences, hip hop today...ah, just read the damn thing! And check out his myspace, SEVEN @ MYSPACE

JS: WHATS GOOD BRO!
Jumping right into it, what got you into hiphop?

Seven: well the underground ill shyt i guess
ive been into hip hop since 4th grade

JSC: With that being said, what would some of your musical influences be?

Seven: from just hip hop?
or all genres?
the strokes, afu ra, al green, arctic monkeys, explosions in the sky, asheru & blu black, azymuth, the beatles, black milk, big l, exile, nujabes, the church, cold play, common..thats just to name a few.

JSC: impressive, see your not just limited to one type of music thts whatsup my dude!

Seven: and not to forget jay dee

JSC: DILLA GOD DAMNNN THATS MY DUDE, R.i.P.

Seven: but i didnt get into him later, i cant really say i'm a true fan n shyt.
i discovered him way after all the music i named right now

JSC: ive been on his shit since like commons electric circus shit, after that.. everything he came out with caught my ear

Seven: yea i feel you, i wasnt really feeling that Electric circus.
i was more into like water for chocolate. "the questions" is my jam

JSC: HELL yeah, by far his best album..well at least to me. his new shit, idkkk man...u can tell he stepped out the underground with it.

Seven: foreel, you can definetly hear the difference. but that's hip hop for you.
thats HUMANs for you haha. we're never satisfied with what we got. we always want something new and intriguiging

JSC: that is truee man, instead of really enjoying it to the fullest we're like, OK THIS IS GOOD...NEXTTTTT

Seven: foreel, thats why dudes are puttin out new shit. money + they want a new sound. fuck it.what would the world be without money? ever thought about that?

JSC: probably alot happier, honestly. if i could put my music out, and people like it, id rather litterally give it out then make them buy shit they dnt want.
cuz i mean... the mixtape revolution is a good look..it lets people get to know the artist before they buy the actual album

Seven: i actually never really thought about puttin out a mixtape,i've just been working on this album forever
